The twin city of Lonavala and Khandala, situated on the slopes of the Wetern Ghat Mountain, is the most popular weekend destination for residents of Mumbai and Pune. HOW TO REACH
Lonavala is 128 km from Mumbai and Khandala is merely 8 km from Khandala. The two places are situated on Mumbai Pune Highway. Pune to Lonavala is 64 km. Trains running from Mumbai to Pune stop at both the Lonavala and Khandala stations. Buses also ply from Mumbai to Lonavala at a frequency of 15 to 20 minutes. From Pune the journey is of one and half hours by bus.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
The best time to visit Lonavala is in the months from October and May. Lonavala is especially enjoyable in the monsoon season that is from June to September. The sight of heavy rainfall in the slopes of verdant mountain is awesome.

Kaivalyadhama Yoga Hospital, is 2 km from Lonavala, is a center of yogic healing. It lies on the road to Karla and Bhaja caves. Karla and Bhaja Caves are good places to visit. Located in the hills at a distance of 11 km from Lonavala, these rock-cut cave temples are some of the oldest and best examples of Buddhist rock cut temple art in India. They belong to the Hinayana sect of Buddhism. Those who love adventure can take up challenging rock climbing at the Duke’s Nose peak and other locations in the Karla hills, near Lonavala.
